Uber Announces Support for LGBT Community and Offers Free Rides to Historical LGBT Locations

On June 17th 2016 Uber announced, through a series of press releases in its online Newsroom that it was “[celebrating] life and love in all its forms” and supporting LGBT communities in North America (and by extension, the world) by recognizing gay pride month. To further show its support, Uber stated that it was “offering free rides [(up to $20 off)] to and from places around [a specific city in North America] that are important to the history and culture of the local LGBTQ community.”

Privately owned company, Uber Technologies Inc., is an American international online transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request, which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars. As of June 2016, the service was available in over 73 countries and 482 cities worldwide.
